Party planning

I can hardly believe it's time to start planning Claire's 1st birthday party!!!  Seriously, where has this year gone?  Well, I know where part of it went - time gets lost when you live in a hospital for several months.  But other than that, I just don't understand how the time went by so quickly.

This year has been such an incredible journey for Claire and our family.  We have had sooooo much support, prayers, and love along the way that have helped us tremendously.

Trent and I have always been the ones to say that whenever we had kids, we would not have these big huge birthday parties.  Especially for the first few since the kids don't really know what is going on anyway.  Well, I guess we will be eating our words this year.  We are not planning a huge blow out party or anything, but just planning to invite tons of people!

The "plan" (we all know how I feel about this four letter word these days) is to celebrate Claire's birthday on Saturday, October 8th.  We will just have finger foods and then cake and ice cream.  To save money, I am planning to send out Evite invitations (thanks for the idea Eliza!!) instead of mailing invitations.  But we need your help.  I know there are a lot of you out there who read the blog, have helped us this year, pray for Claire, or support and love us in so many different ways, but I don't have your email addresses.  If you want to come to Claire's birthday party celebration, we want you to be there!  So please go ahead and send me your email address to rebeccascott333@yahoo.com ASAP so I can get you on the list!!!!  Or if you think I might not have it, send it to me anyway!  I know I converse with a lot of you on Facebook, but that doesn't mean I have your email address!  I will probably be emailing out the invitations in the next few weeks with all of the details.

We are asking that you do not bring any gifts for Claire.   We will be asking that you fill out a "blessing card" (probably like an index card) for Claire at the party (or if you can't make it, you can mail one to us!).  I want to make a book of blessings for Claire with blessings and comments from all of her friends.  So be prepared to write a little something to her - it can be a prayer, a blessing for her, a memory of Claire, or how she has blessed your life this year.  I think this will mean so much more to Claire than any gift possible.

Please also do not forget that Erin McCoy Photography will be coming ALL the way from Florida to take pictures at Claire's first birthday bash!  Go ahead and book your DISCOUNTED session with her while she is in town!!!!  And I thought we were getting Claire's birthday cake made by Icing Smiles, but our favorite Duke labor and delivery nurse, Tammy, offered to make Claire's cake!!!!!  How special will that be?!?!  So Icing Smiles put Claire on their October 2012 calendar.  :)

We will be celebrating this miracle below.  Here are a few pictures from day 1 and day 2 of life.  We were not able to see Claire until almost 12 hours after she was born and were not able to hold her until the 2nd day.  That bili light eye mask looks huge in these pictures, but in reality, it's tiny.

Claire's BIRTHday

Notice that Claire's entire hand is only as big as Trent's first knuckle on his finger.  That's tiny!!!!

And her leg is so tiny compared to my hand.

Come help us celebrate our miracle's first birthday!!

Love,
The Scott Family

  2. I found claire's blog through every heart has a story and have been reading it. The whole time thinking wow I know what she was going through exactly. Greyson was born one day after Claire and had his surgery one day before Claire. Reading through her blog has taken me back to all the hospital stays and doctor appointments we have had. And now we are on to planning birthday parties. You have an amazing little girl. Greyson's blog is #18 I think. Greyson's heart. You can find me on Facebook too. I know it's nice having someone else going through the same things.
